White House Blocks Pentagon’s NSA, Cyber Command Choice
(MENAFN) The White House has reportedly blocked the Pentagon's selection for the top roles at the National Security Agency (NSA) and U.S. Cyber Command, media disclosed on Friday.
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the reasons behind the decision to reject Army Lt. Gen. Richard Angle’s nomination remain unclear. Angle, a seasoned special operations leader, had been backed by key figures such as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, as stated by a senior intelligence official and two former high-ranking national security officials, media reported.
The move comes on the heels of significant turmoil within the NSA. In April, Air Force Gen.
Timothy Haugh, who served as NSA chief, and Deputy Director Wendy Noble were dismissed from their posts, sparking strong backlash from congressional Democrats.
