Trump Says He Faces Challenges Stopping Israel’s Airstrikes on Iran
Speaking to reporters in New Jersey—during a fundraiser at his golf club—Trump voiced his concerns about the difficulty of influencing Israel’s military actions. Local media outlets reported the comments, emphasizing the president’s complex stance on the issue.
Trump also dismissed European efforts to mediate between Iran and the West, asserting that Tehran is more interested in direct negotiations with the U.S. “They didn’t help… Iran doesn’t want to speak to Europe. They want to speak to us. Europe is not going to be able to help on this one,” Trump said.
Earlier in the day, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce addressed the ongoing conflict at a press briefing. When asked about the administration’s stance on a potential ceasefire, she said that she "can't speculate" on whether the U.S. would push for one to advance nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran.
"I’m not going to characterize what’s happening now, or the reaction by the president or the secretary of state to what those negotiations might be," Bruce added.
The remarks come amid rising tensions in the region, where the U.S. continues its diplomatic efforts while Israel’s airstrikes on Iranian targets escalate.
